Write for us
We welcome pitches that help readers examine how news and public claims are made, framed and understood. A strong proposal offers a clear question, a defined reader benefit and a careful route through the subject.
What we welcome
Pitch original, accessible work on framing, evidence, language, context or thoughtful news-reading habits. We are interested in explainers, comparisons and close readings that give readers a useful way to examine an idea without telling them what political conclusion to reach.
What makes a good pitch
Tell us the central question, why it matters to a general reader and what the piece will help that reader notice or do. Include a brief outline, the likely form of the piece and any important sources or uncertainties. Keep the proposal focused enough that its main point can be stated in a sentence.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and select the editorial option. Please describe the idea rather than submitting a finished piece as a pitch. A proposal is not a promise of publication, and we may ask for revisions or clarification before considering a draft.
Careful reading makes room for better questions.
A headline can orient us, but it cannot hold every qualification. We look beyond the first impression without assuming that one reading settles the matter.
